A Perfect Union Art Gallery warmly invites the community to experience “Mended,” a powerful group exhibition in our Global Heritage Series, highlighting artists whose heritages are rooted in Europe. The exhibit seeks to explore the fractured, torn, disrupted experiences and histories, from personal to global, and the paths to healing and hope, leading to the ultimate triumph of our shared human story.

EXHIBITION DATES

April 11 – May 2, 2026

To be human is to experience pain of loss and brokenness – from limbs to hearts; from object to relationships; from countries to shattered personal dreams. And yet, both nature and human spirit seem to gravitate towards healing, mending, repurposing, restoration and hope. This exhibition explores the breadth and width of this universal process and its unique, individual expression.

‘Mended’ is a heartfelt invitation to a personal participation of each artist and each viewer. Whether through the artistic process or observation of the finished piece, we have the opportunity to step back and reflect on our own lives’ struggles, big and small, and the thread of grace that mends our minds and souls, binding us together in hope for a better future.

About the Curator

Gordana Sjostedt is a curator with A Perfect Union Art Gallery and leads the European regional exhibition as a part of the gallery’s global heritage series. Her curatorial vision centers on, to use words by Brenee Brown, the gifts of imperfection; discovering beauty in the overlooked or discarded; a quiet somewhat subversive pushback on the ‘disposable culture’ where both things and people have a short ‘shelf life’. Her mother’s incredible mending skills and her father’s limitless creativity in fixing broken things has inspired her to garner their wisdom and tenacity as she faces all her own torn and fractured pieces that make up life.

Mended is a tribute to all those who didn’t balk at the difficulties and challenges of their ‘current moment’ but kept steady in faith, without receiving the promises, but having seen and welcomed them from a distance, confessing that they were strangers and immigrants on the earth 

(Hebrews 11:13).
